Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actress singer and former model. Most famously, she is known for her performance in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain as well as being the singer-in-chief of Apollonia 6, a girl group. Apollonia, a singer/actress who was christened by Prince in 1984 became one of the many female singers of the 1980s that benefited from Prince. Patricia Kotero is a Californian actress, born in the city of Santa Monica, California in 1959. Her beginnings included being a model on television. In 1984, she was cast as the female lead for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time the singer altered her name) and was replaced by Vanity in the female trio Vanity 6 which performed on the screen under the name Apollonia 6. Kotero broke up with Prince following a falling apart over the direction of Apollonia 6. Kotero went on to be featured in a few minor roles during the time (reportedly declining to appear on The Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) and then landed a role on the night-time television drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia was finally able to release her debut album in 1988, but her comparatively tame collection of songs that incorporated dance/R&B did not be a hit with those who bought music, and the album soon vanished out of sight.
